Thanks for this, just got a new iMac and installed Office 2008 but kept getting blocked from installing updates, seems to be working now but I'll probably switch back to App Store/Identified Developers after the updates are done, just to be secure. The app is saved as an exception to your security settings, and you can open it in the future by double-clicking it just as you can any registered app. Note: Another way to grant an exception for a blocked app is to click the “Open Anyway” button on the Security pane of System Preferences.

First, download the DMG or ZIP file containing the app. Then, copy the app into your Applications folder. Once you have done that, simply go to Applications -> GIMP. Right click on the app, and click “ Open“. You will be greeted with an alert box asking you if you’re sure that you want to open the app. Click “Open”, if you’re sure the app is safe.
