The /System/Library/Automator/ directory contains 278 individual Actions that can be used in Automator workflows. Is there anywhere I can obtain a catalog of all those actions, or at least some large fraction of them, with a paragraph or two explaining what each of them does and its input and output options? (Preferably in downloadable and searchable form.. ) The Peachpit Visual Quickstart Guide describes a few of these actions in its illustrative examples but otherwise has no listing of even a smaller subset of important or basic Actions; I've not been able to find any such catalog on Apple's web site; and I haven't found any way to export such a catalog from the Library in Automator itself.

The metadata describing what each of these 278 Actions does, along with its relevant options and so on, is presumably contained within the HD file for each of these 278 Actions in some readily recognizable form. So, could some Automator expert write a workflow that would pull out this information and more or less instantly create a catalog of all 278 Actions in the form of an organized (and searchable!) text file? Would be a great contribution to mankind (and womankind).
